The shoe designer favored by the great fashion houses has just opened her first boutique in Paris. This time, her work is not revealed under the label of a prestigious brand, but under her own name, as she takes over the premises at <\/em>1 Rue de la Paix<\/em><\/strong>. A closer look at a behind-the-scenes figure who is finally stepping into the spotlight she deserves.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Hard at work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Saint Laurent, Celine, Dries Van Noten, Bottega Veneta, Loewe, The Row, <\/strong>and now Dior, Nina Christen <\/strong>has worked with many of the most prestigious fashion houses, first as a shoe designer and later as a department head. While her name is well known within the industry, the public is most of all familiar with her designs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the most iconic: the Minnie Mouse-style red heels for Loewe, the mesh-heeled sandals, and the Lido mules for Bottega Veneta<\/strong>. One of her favorite designs. Her track record also includes The Row\u2019s<\/strong> much-criticized flip-flops. For the past year, she has been designing Dior\u2019s shoe collections under the artistic direction of Jonathan Anderson, with whom she had previously collaborated at Loewe. A reunion that proves Nina Christen is a highly sought-after designer in the industry. Speaking about Jonathan Anderson<\/strong>, she told EE72<\/strong>: \u201cJonathan inspires me enormously. His way of working, the way he juxtaposes elements, everything is very instinctive, very dynamic, almost electric.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nina Christen\u2019s secret? She\u2019s a chameleon, able to adapt to each fashion house and even to changes in artistic direction:\u201cWhen I join a house, I first try to capture its energy and that of the artistic director.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating under her own name<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The roundabout path taken by many women designers to gain recognition in the fashion industry often involves creating their own brand,<\/strong> frequently under their own name. This phenomenon can partly be explained by the persistent difficulty women face in accessing artistic director positions within major fashion houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously discussed in an article devoted to the lack of female representation at the head of creative direction, the opportunities available to women designers remain limited. In this context, launching one\u2019s own label becomes both a strategy for emancipation and a means of gaining legitimacy. <\/strong>It allows designers to bypass a system that has historically tended to favor male figures or already highly visible personalities for the most prominent roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nina Christen\u2019s case, however, presents an interesting nuance. Unlike some designers who turn to entrepreneurship out of necessity or a desire for complete independence, she seems equally interested in evolving across both worlds at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, the fact that Nina Christen chose to use her own surname for her brand takes on strong symbolic significance. By placing her identity at the heart of the project, she asserts her creative legitimacy beyond the sole framework of the major fashion houses with which she collaborates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A place of one\u2019s own<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One might see this as an extension of the idea formulated by Virginia Woolf<\/strong> in A Room of One’s Own<\/em>: to reach their full potential, women sometimes have to build a space of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Nina Christen, that space is now located at 1 Rue de la Paix<\/strong>, just steps from Place Vend\u00f4me. The boutique was conceived in collaboration with the artist Azadeh Shladovsky<\/strong>. The result is a brutalist interior where raw concrete covers the floor, walls, and ceiling. A deliberately stripped-back blank canvas, designed to evolve with the seasons and the collections.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the products, the designer offers a line of pumps with timeless lines, crafted in some of the finest Italian manufactures.
